It takes some real contortions to make this link, but somehow Fox News’ Glenn Beck managed to get from the tragic shootings at Fort Hood to the President’s address at the White House Tribal Nations Conference to the possibility of reparations for tribes.
Here’s the Fox News transcript of his remarks on Wednesday, Veterans Day (or watch the video clip above – the remarks come about 2 minutes and 25 seconds in):
“The first thing that hit me as I was watching television just like you were and I saw President Obama talking about native American rights in the middle of a tragedy at Fort Hood — I couldn’t believe it. I mean, it sounded almost like maybe, possibly, would there be some reparations involved?
” … Let me say this right off the top of the bat, nobody can question that Native Americans were mistreated, treaties were broken, promises not kept. Yes. You got it. We’ve definitely heard fairly recently about Native American rights and what we owe them. What we owe them. What we owe them.”
Beck goes on to ascribe Obama’s remarks at the Tribal Nations Conference to the philosophies of the administration’s former green jobs czar Van Jones – who has been excoriated by the right – and then he says that “obviously, what he (Obama) had in mind goes far beyond giving them casino licenses and free government health care.”
Finally, Beck wonders if it’s “just a coincidence that Obama “brought up Native American rights at such an inappropriate time – and it also just happens to be a pet issue of Jones? Maybe.”
What a load of crap. The president didn’t “bring up” Native American rights – they were already on the table, as part of the long-scheduled Tribal Nations Conference, when Nidal Malik Hasan went on his murderous rampage. And he never mentioned reparations.
It’s a nasty insinuation designed to whip up fears of “them” sticking together to the presumed detriment of white people.
For Beck to twin the Fort Hood tragedy with some tired old cheap shots at Native people to make connotations about the president’s motives is stunningly – let’s use his own word – inappropriate.
Beck owes an apology to the families of the Fort Hood victims for politicizing their heartbreak. He owes an apology to Indian people for suggesting they seek handouts. And he owes an apology to the president for putting words in his mouth.

This is totally why I never watch him or the Fox Channel. He never gets all of the facts before spouting off. If he had a “gut” feeling, he should have done a little research and it would have made more sense to him…OR maybe not…it is Glenn Beck!!
As an enrolled member of a Native Nation, I share some of the same sentiments as previous posters. I am a 8 yr. veteran of the Army & USMC, who sometimes questions why I defended the rights of someone like Mr. Beck to say lies and stir the pot of racial hatred. But I am glad to see others aren’t taken in by Mr. Beck’s race baiting. Keep informed, and try to do some permanent good, no matter how big or small it is important.
I work in the Native community and watched the entire Tribal Nations summit. President Obama promised them he’d start honoring the treaty promises our government already made but has never kept.
Glenn Beck needs to get off his privileged butt and learn how the rest of the world really lives.
The President’s job is to be THE American diplomat and voice for the people of the United States. His speeches and talking points are based on information gathered by research, facts and his personal experiences. FOX and Glen Beck’s gossip show are as informed as Paris Hilton and thus make about as much sense on Indigenous American History. I stopped taking “Sesame Street” seriously when I realised the puppet had a hand up it’s backside moving It’s mouth with childish nonsense being read by a grown man. The same applies with Beck’s foolish, toddler tantrum and hate monger rhetoric. Take a time out in the corner Glen, and read a history book to alleviate your frustration.
I wish I could use the word, that I would like to call Glen Beck…This man gets more ridiculous every time he opens, his hate filled mouth…I just wish he’d shut the F*** up…
Hey, Glenn is OK. He’s is simply taking lessons on how to be a total idiot and jackass from his buddy Rush. I feel he sees Rush’s financial success by being a complete joke and is trying to get a piece of the action. He is like Rush in that he does not have what it takes to make it as a serious reporter so he does what Rush does and that is to take cheap shots at everything the President does and says. Easy way out.
Oh the tangled web he weaves! It’s only a matter of time before the folks he has been “fooling” figure him out…and then he will find out what real anger is! “What goes around”….then it will be a pleasure to watch!
By now you’d think we’d be used to poor little Beck, but then he goes and starts babbling again. If he’d have checked and payed attention he would have understood the speech. Oh gee I forgot, Beckie doesn’t like facts only inuendo. Ah well, one can only hope his hoof in mouth disease doesn’t get any worse.
The whole Right wing-Republican-fundamentalist “Christian” thing so prevalent in your country brings me down so badly that I now avoid anything like Fox news. Besides, if you join me in watching news in Canada, we have always seen and heard so many details that NEVER appear on your networks….
I think the indians are afraid of losing the good thing. Free rides do end and all free loaders have to go to work. No more food stamps, free money, maybe then the tribal governments will help the people.

This is a golden opportunity for Natives to unite our votes to support president Obama and take our lands back one vote at a time! we can sit behind these computer screens and complain or we can take action and have our voices heard.
I have great feelings for the Native Americans, and in no way would say anything bad about them. But in answer to Kerry post, I think the idiot, jackasses, are Pelosi, Reid,Frank and others.

I can not believe the attacks on our President! It just seems the rednecks just will not be QUIET! Native Americans need to be apologized to, pay on the real dollar for every bit of land that they stole – and most important – I do not want to hear about Immigrants either – because everyone is one except for the Native American!
Glenn Beck is just another loudmouthed example of the deep-seeded racism that exists in American Society towards NDN Country. Slade Gorton, a man who built his entire political career in Washington state is another… these fools can always be recognized by their “you’re conquered, get over it”, “yes, we stole everything that was your’s, get over it” sort of tirades. Thing is, these same people would call for nuclear attacks on NDN Country if we ever conquered them or stole everything from them. They’re the hypocrite and liar descendants of thieves, rapists, and murderers. I truly believe some of those immigrants (non-Native Americans) need to be deported back to where their ancestors came from. Since day one, they’ve only wanted to kill us all off. People like Glenn Beck spark fires for these people to stand up and protest human rights for us Natives.
As for President Obama, I do have criticisms of his administration, but he’s finally making some gestures towards remembering his promises. Though, trying to make good on the treaties already written, is a problem for him. Honestly, coming through on many of those treaties could actually get him charged with high treason. This is why I am skeptical on the promises he made to us during his campaign. As we know from American history, America would love nothing more than to lynch another non-white…
Further, I think President needs to reaffirm his support of righting the wrongs waged against us Natives over the past few centuries by changing America’s vote on the UN’s Declaration on Human Rights of Indigenous Peoples from against to in favor of.
Glenn Beck just needs to be deported… It angers me he had the nerve to even try to mix our political negotiations in with that tragedy at Ft. Hood.

As angry as Beck made me with this, I really must laugh. At the Univeristy owned by the church which he belongs to, one course requires reading a most racist publication about IQ. The theory is that non-whites are genetically inferior when it comes to intelligence. Yes, this is required reading at BYU in an upper level course. As I said, I must laugh because Beck proves the IQ Bell Curve wrong.

The Reparations issue is a Legal Wise, Strong Argument if applied ONLY to Native Americans in our Country today!. But NOT to All Non Native Americans, including African Americans nor any other type in that category box!.

Mormonism teaches many gods, that the god of the earth was once a man who attained godhood status, there is no trinity, the cross of Christ means nothing and that Jesus Christ and Satan were brothers. Beck and the Fox Network both cater to the same lowest common denominator of demagogery. Beck would not know the first thing about God as he is a mormon. Someone should ask him which of the many mormon gods he kept talking about during his argument with himself on Saturday on the square in DC. Like a typical dry alcoholic, Beck even lied on national television when he spoke about holding a document signed by George Washington. That event never took Place Unfortunately, people who love being led around by the nose do not realize that he is talking about a different god than that of Christianity, Judaism or Islam and that he has been a product of mormonism cultism from the day he started doing a radio talk show as an opinion pusher. You don’t have to have a degree in psychology to see that he exhibits all the signs of a dry alcoholic. I believe I can speak for all of us as soon as I say this, our health may be the most essential thing. If we have our health, I consider that we can get any woman/man we want and any work we want. But with the modern day climate of points on the raising prices of supplements and such, I believe the average spend on health solutions is around $1000-2000 a year for me, it’s most likely higher for others.
